Jennifer Dawson, MHA, FACHE, LSSBB, CPHQ, DLM(ASCP)SLS, QIHC, QLC specializes in building and revamping quality programs for clinical labs including Quality Management System development from the ground up and fostering a culture of quality. She has built or revamped numerous quality programs for a variety of CLIA/CAP labs including large reference labs, small privately owned labs, academic medical center labs, start ups and hospital labs. She is also affiliate faculty at Regis University in Denver, CO and occasionally provides lab quality consulting for organizations such as Baylor University Medical Center and Geisinger Medical Laboratories. Jennifer sits on the CLSI Quality Management Systems Expert Panel, and the AACC Management Sciences & Patient Safety Division Executive Committee. She has served on the National Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award Board of Examiners and serves on the ASCLS Patient Safety Committee.  She’s a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, and holds the Diplomate in Laboratory Management certification from ASCP. 


Jenni started her career in laboratory science at the University of Colorado Health and Sciences center in Aurora, CO working in an immunofluorescence laboratory, which later expanded into a full service dermatopathology laboratory, where she gained valuable bench and lab management experience. She also spent time as a technologist at Denver Health working in the Histology and Cytology departments. She founded the Quality and Safety program at Forensic Laboratories, a Toxicology Laboratory in Denver, and revamped National Jewish Health Advanced Diagnostic Laboratories' quality program and led the team successfully through ISO 15189 Accreditation. She also served as Vice President, Quality & Regulatory Affairs for Sonic Healthcare USA (SHUSA), where she was one of four executives to build Sonic Reference Laboratory, SHUSA's national esoteric reference laboratory, from the ground up. Dawson built the Quality Management System, trained all employees and successfully achieved all necessary licensure and accreditation for the laboratory, including CLIA, CAP, NYSDOH, FL, MD, PA, RI and CA. She also consulted with SHUSA labs across the country to assist with their quality programs and lab regulatory affairs. 


Since late 2016, she has been working for genetic testing start-ups in California to establish Quality Management Systems, lead licensure and accreditation efforts, develop and implement regulatory strategies, and serve as an advisor for quality and regulatory affairs. Her areas of interest include ISO 15189 and Baldrige Framework deployment, real-time quality metrics, cost of poor quality, electronic management of non-conformities, creating a culture of quality, and quality in the pre-analytical phase. She is a frequent speaker, poster presenter and author on topics related to lab quality.
